International ice hockey is coming to Cancún.

The Mexican resort city will host the Pan American Ice Hockey Tournament from February 24 to March 1, 2027, marking the first international ice hockey competition at the Cancún Ice Rink.

The Olympic-size facility, which opened in August 2024, will welcome at least nine national teams from across the Americas for the tournament, which is sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The event returns after a 10-year absence. The previous edition was held in Mexico City in 2017.

Organizers say the tournament is intended to help develop ice hockey throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Teams will be permitted to include players with family ties to the countries they represent, although at least half of each roster must consist of players born in that country.

Cancún’s tourism industry will also play a role, with participating teams expected to take part in activities around the region during their stay.

Admission is expected to be free, with organizers planning for capacity of approximately 1,500 spectators at the rink.
