Jim Setters, the long-time head coach of the German U20 and U18 national teams, will lead the Lithuanian U20 national team.
Setters was coaching the German U20 national team from 1997 to 1999 and the U18 national team for 16 consecutive seasons from 2000 to 2015 after a first stint from 1991 to 1997.
The 63-year-old, Canada-born former defenceman has been playing and coaching in Germany since 1980 and got in touch with Lithuania through another experienced coach from Germany, Bernd Haake, who has been coaching the Lithuanian men’s national team for the past four years.
At the Lithuanian U20 national team Setters will succeed Aigars Cipruss, who returned to Latvia to join KHL club Dinamo Riga as an assistant coach.
The U20 national team was the strongest national team from Lithuania last season being ranked 24th overall in the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship program.
In the upcoming season the team will play in the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group A in Tallinn with Japan, host Estonia, Croatia, the Netherlands and Romania.
