The Indonesian National Men’s Ice Hockey Team has etched its name into the history books, securing a momentous gold medal at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games. In a thrilling final held at the Thailand International Ice Hockey Arena on Friday night, December 19, the “Red-and-White” squad overcame the host nation with a narrow 3-2 victory.

In a dramatic turn of events, Indonesia, trailing 2-1, managed to score two goals in the final two minutes of the match, clinching a stunning victory. This outcome was particularly heartbreaking for Thailand, who had been on the verge of achieving a gold medal double after their women’s team celebrated a gold medal win against the Philippines earlier in the day.

This win marks a significant milestone for Indonesian winter sports, as the team not only reached the top of the podium but also helped the national delegation exceed its overall medal targets for the biennial event.

A Hard-Fought Victory

The match was a testament to Indonesia’s resilience. Facing a formidable Thai team on their home turf, the Indonesian players maintained their composure under pressure. Ronald Situmeang, Chairman of the Indonesian Ice Hockey Federation (FHEI), praised the squad’s unwavering spirit.

Team captain Anryan Saputra reflected on the arduous journey to the gold medal, acknowledging that the path to victory was anything but easy.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support and prayers from everyone back home,” Saputra said. “We hope this win inspires more people through the values of teamwork and persistence that we brought to the rink.”

Looking Ahead

With this historic gold, Indonesian ice hockey has signaled its emergence as a rising power in the region. The federation aims to use this momentum to further develop the sport domestically and continue inspiring a new generation of Indonesian athletes.
